ARCH1101 EXP1 Final Submission
Final Sketchup model for Experiment 1:
The studio above ground is for Jiro Ono while the one below ground is for Shinya Kimura. The words for both studios are fishing and components respectively.
For Jiro Ono's above ground studio, since the word is fishing, I wanted to make it look organic and decided to design it in a way that resembles things relating to fishing such as water, waves, bubbles and so on. The studio spaces are hence designed to resemble bubbles while the stairs contain wave-like elements. The 'bubbles' are being supported by stilts in a way resembling how some fishing villages are built on water. Lines used to design the above ground studio are mostly curved to show the organic feature.
For Shinya Kimura's below ground studio, I wanted to be geometric and have a simple shape with many components inside. Hence, i made the general shape a rectangle with many studios spaces inside. The walls are made of different thicknesses and varying in different heights, lengths, textures and materials. The stairs are built in a way that shows the dynamic quality to Kimura's works and is designed in a way that contains different material elements and sizes.
There is a mid-portion to the whole studio design as a space for displaying their works. It is an extension of the below ground studio and creates a point of entry from the ground level to both studios.
On the whole, I wanted to convey the contrast between the 2 studios. One being organic while the other being geometric. Even though they have their differences, both studios still go together and work in one way or another.
